Model Rocket

The Applied Science and Engineering Club at Irvine Valley College hosted a build and launch model rocket session

While I was attending Irvine Valley College, I joined the Applied Science and Engineering Club (ASEC). I attended a couple of meetings in which we were able to learn and build mini projects in groups. For example, I attended a meeting where we were challenged to make a windmill that will gain the most voltage when put in front of a fan. However, the meeting that stood out to me was when we made model rockets. This was my first time doing anything that was related to rocket making, and I took advantage of the opportunity. I decided to build one of the more difficult rockets to make. It was taller and required different materials and supplies to make. So understandably I was nervous when the day came to launch them. In Luceren valley with the club, one by one we launched our rockets, and when it was my turn I stayed optimistic. When I saw the rocket launch into the sky and deploy its parachute, I was overcome with joy and happiness that it worked. Now, I continue to make more model rockets as a hobby and plan to launch more in the days to come.

I had a lot of fun building and launching the rocket and learned a couple of things too. I learned the importance of taking your time and listening to instructions when making a rocket. One small mistake and the rocket might not lift off the ground. I also met a lot of like minded people and built connections with fellow engineers. All in all, this cemented the mindset that I want to work with rockets and become and Aerospace Engineer in my future.
